David M. Brown

President

Mr. Brown received his B.S. in Business from Duquesne University his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined Alcoa in 1977 and moved through the positions of Attorney and Managing Attorney. After several years as the Managing Attorney he had gained both reputation and recognition and was subsequently promoted to General Counsel for Alcoa of Australia, a $3B Alcoa subsidiary. For six years he ran the legal department for Alcoa of Australia and also responsible for that company’s public relations and government affairs activities. Upon returning to the United States Mr. Brown left Alcoa and became a partner in CB Contracting. He then moved on to become Operations Manager for Carter Union Electric. After two years he joined IE2 where he and Mr. Kiefer met.

Dr. John R. Kiefer

Vice President

After receiving his B.S. in Human Biology and Biophysics at the University of California, he began his professional career engineering microprocessor-based medical instrumentation applications. His experience allowed him to land a job as a venture capital technology analyst with the investment banking firm of Hambrecht and Quist. Following a success venture capital investment, he became the CEO of Yates Ventures and arranged its acquisition by International Data Group, where he served as a senior VP providing high technology consulting information to fortune 500 firms including AT&T, Hewlett Packard, IBM and Apple. Recognizing the “next” wave in technology would likely be biotechnology based, he returned to the University of California (while on a sabbatical from with IDG) and completed a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular biology. He was recruited to the position of CEO at ie2 in Naples, Florida where he worked before founding E3 Building Sciences with Mr. Brown.

Thomas A. Karras

Vice President of Operations

Mr. Karras joined E3 Design & Building Sciences in 2005. He received his B.S. in Economics from Appalachian State and his MBA from New York University. He began his career managing client wealth with First Citizens Bank. Mr. Karras left the corporate world and began life as an entrepreneur. In 1989 he started Sacramento Bread Company. In 1999 Mr. Karras sold part of the company and went into semi-retirement. It wasn’t long before he started another company, Blue Pepper Gourmet. After four years with Blue Pepper he was brought aboard E3 to run operations.

Ben Millar

Director of Business Development

Mr. Millar received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Florida. He began his career with Pulte Homes as a Purchasing Agent and became responsible for a $100M purchasing budget.  He later moved on and became the Estimator at G&L Shell.  While attaining his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Florida, Mr. Millar joined E3 Building Sciences as the Director of Sales and Marketing to direct sales and marketing efforts. His role quickly expanded and he was promoted to Director of Business Development.  Mr. Millar’s roles include: directing sales initiatives, creating marketing campaigns, teaching LEED Green Rater Courses, and developing operational procedures.
