Green Rater Training

E3 Building Sciences has been selected by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) as a Provider for its LEED for Homes Program. As a Provider we are charged with the promotion of Green Building and the marketing of the LEED for Homes Program. E3 is also responsible for the training and oversight of Green Raters. E3 has developed a program in conjunction with the USGBC program that will provide green professionals with a smooth transition from education to professional work. To learn more about the role of a Green Rater view our LEED for Homes—Players and Roles page.

Training Overview

To become an E3 Green Rater an individual must obtain the USGBC Green Rater Certificate and complete the E3 Green Rater Mentorship Program. The individual must also sign an E3 Green Rater Agreement. Our recommended first step is to contact E3 and notify us of your intent to become a Green Rater. We can help guide you through the process and make sure you have all the training and knowledge necessary.

There are two paths to USGBC Green Rater Accreditation, the Conventional Track and the Advanced Track. The vast majority of potential Green Raters will take the Conventional Track. In order to begin the Conventional Green Rater Track you must make sure you meet the Eligibility Qualifications.

The Eligibility Qualifications include Required Knowledge, which includes an understanding of green building strategies in each of the primary LEED for Homes Credit Categories and a basic knowledge of Building Science. If you are interested in gaining this knowledge, please contact us. If you gain this knowledge from E3 Education Courses, you may be eligible to receive a reduced E3 Mentorship Program tuition.

Once you have met all the Eligibility Qualifications, you must complete the USGBC Green Rater Online Modules. You may also sign an E3 Green Rater Agreement Form. Upon completion of the modules you must take the USGBC Green Rater Workshop. Completing Workshop Registration will enable you to start the online modules. After you have completed the Green Rater Workshop you will be able to sign up for the Green Rater Exam.

Finally, you will join the E3 Mentorship Program. Once complete, you will receive your USGBC Green Rater Certificate and will be added to the E3 Green Rater Program. Your name will also appear on E3’s Partners list online.
