FGBC Green Home Certification
FGBC certification is straight forward and easy to understand. Certification starts with the education of the design team (a.k.a. the project team). The FGBC has created a checklist that can help guide a project team and help them understand green building. Certifying Agents can help explain how the checklist pertains to green building and the design team’s project. When the design team (a.k.a. the project team) understands what it takes to create a “green” home, they can make informed decisions as a cohesive group about the design of the home.
After the home is designed to be “green” and construction is underway, a FGBC Certifying Agent will conduct inspections of the home to make sure that the built home matches the designed home. A HERS Rater (a.k.a. Energy Rater) will also test and inspect the home to measure the energy efficiency of the home.

The Florida Green Building Coalition
The FGBC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the build environment. Their mission is “to lead and promote sustainability with environmental, economic, and social benefits through regional education and certification programs.”
FGBC has created clear and meaningful principles on which “green” qualification and marketing can be based. The FGBC is a membership-based organization governed by a Board of Directors and corporate officers who are elected by the general membership. E3 Building Sciences is a member of the FGBC.
The FGBC’s goals are very similar to E3’s. One of the FGBC’s main goals is to continually find new and innovative ways to educate builders, developers, local governments, and consumers about how to achieve a healthier, more environmentally sustainable future.
