FAQs

What is a Provider?

A Provider is an organization chosen by the USGBC because of its experience and expertise in Green Building. The Provider is responsible for training and overseeing Green Raters. E3 Building Sciences is your local Provider. As a Provider, E3 will act as the liaison between the USGBC and Green Raters.

What is a LEED for Homes Green Rater?

The Green Rater is trained by the Provider to help design, inspect, test, and verify that projects meet the USGBC LEED for Homes criteria. A Green Rater can act as an agent of or work independent of the Provider.

How do I become a LEED for Homes Green Rater?

In order to become a Green Rater you must receive Green Rater training.  E3 currently offers this training.  Please contact E3 Building Sciences or view our website for a course schedule.  In the future the USGBC will offer training.

I am a Green Rater can I run my own LEED for Homes consulting firm?

Yes. You can work with another company or start your own business and charge your own fees. Becoming a LEED for Homes Green Rater may be just another service you can offer your clients.

If I am a LEED AP and I am also the Architect, can I be the Green Rater for my Project?

If you are being paid to work on any of the design elements of the project you may not act as the Green Rater . Contact E3 in order to find a Green Rater. You may also view E3’s website.
